Nkambe Council Promises To Replace Eucalyptus With Water-Loving Trees

For close to 18 years, the lone water catchment that supplies much of Nkambe Council in Donga Mantung Division, Northwest Region area has been degraded by surrounding eucalyptus forest. Now the Council wants to put a stop to this degradation which has left households without adequate water to meet their needs.
The Council has promised to clear the forest of the environment-unfriendly eucalyptus trees surrounding the catchment area and replant it with water-loving trees donated by Trees Cameroon in partnership with Sustainable Run for Development (SURUDEV).
The Council will nurse and transplant the trees in the catchment area. Once the catchment is revamped, it will boost economic activities in Nkambe Central Sub-Division.
