China Grants MINFOF Reforestation Materials Worth 400 Million Frs

The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) Ngole Philip Ngwese, March 4, received material assistance from China worth CFA 400 million frs. Cfa.

The materials – 120 desktops, 120 printers, 100 notebook computers, 40 photocopiers, 40 scanners, 30 fax machines, 200 notebooks, 20 digital cameras, 10 digital video cameras, 10 projectors, 10 fridges, 40 soil moisture testers, 170 handheld GPS position indicators, 60 flat panel computers, 1000 hand shovels, 50 slope measuring instruments, 50 handheld laser rangefinders, 100 chain saws, 100 brush cutters, 50 water pumps, 100 compasses, 2000 choppers, 500 files, 50 gasoline pumps, 10 water tanks, 200 straight shears, 200 pruning shears and 10 freezers – are intended to support MINFOF to enhance strategies of reforestation, green zones and sustainable management in exploitation of forest resources.

The Forestry Minister also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Wo Ruidi, for further cooperation in sustainable management of forest and wildlife resources.

The Minister said the gesture symbolizes the mutual relationship that exists between Cameroonians and the people of the Republic of China.

He added that the materials would significantly contribute in performance and go a long way to support the technical services in executing their daily responsibility, consequently helping to add value to harvested wood and the transformation process.

Ngole Ngwese thanked the Chinese Ambassador for the materials and other supports like the recent exchange opportunity to some staff of MINFOF to undergo training in China on the promotion of raffia bamboos and their usage.

He promised the materials will be judiciously used for purposed which they are destine for in the forestry sector. He called on his collaborators to make optima used of all materials put at their disposal.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador, reiterated that the materials are meant to help MINFOF staff efficiently carry out their activities to protect the environment and foster sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

Ruidi said the materials will help to increase output, foster growth and create employment in the sector to alleviate poverty in the country.

He said China has been able to develop a sustainable model of managing environmental resources, and that it wishes to share it with Cameroon to enable the country efficiently exploit and manage all its natural resources.

He promised more materials and technical support to render Cameroon’s forestry sector more productive.
