After 8 months of COVID-19 Scare, ERuDeF resumes Sporting activities

In our society sport fulfils important functions and is indeed indispensable. It offers opportunities for physical activity in a world where physical activity is increasingly diminishing; it promotes good health and well-being (when pursued in moderation); and it provides a means of social contact and ample opportunity for intensive experiences. Being healthy and involved in sports goes hand in hand with a healthy environment. Many sporting events such as the Olympics rely on the natural world and has environmental impacts.

The Environment and Rural Development Foundation (ERuDeF), has engaged in sporting activities since early 2020 until the outbreak of the pandemic COVID 19. This idea of doing sports every Saturday morning was conceived by the management in other to achieve the following objective; to relieve the staff from stress endured in the course of the week, to promote the wellbeing of all the staff in the organization health wise, to create an atmosphere were staff can meet at least once a week to socialize. Ever since the government of Cameroon announced its first case of the pandemic COVID- 19 in the country, all weekend sport activities came to a halt at ERuDeF, in response to the preventive measures put aside by the government. Haven observed about eight months of stay without sport, ERuDeF relaunched sports in November 07.

In our subsequent Environmental Education programs, sport sessions would be organized with the aim of; promoting cultural exchange between children and eradicate discrimination/racism, promoting gender equality, promoting physical development of children and motivate handicap children. Sports has the power to address climate change and tackle sustainable development through inspiring, unifying and engaging millions of people.

The idea of Sports in education programmes is also to raise awareness of the benefits of implementing ecological behavior in sport. Its purpose is environmental education related to sport and the promotion of sport in a safe and clean environment. However, saving natural resources is crucial for maintaining a clean environment and for keeping it in a good condition for the next generations.
