Long Distance Love

Relationships can either be long distance or short distance, and, romantic, as they often turn out to be, can be bitter-sweet at times, depending on how deeply in love we are, or how close we are to our partners. Long or short, nobody in love ever wants to be lonely nor feel neglected.

“Managing a long distance relationship can be very frustrating at times. The distance between you and your partner can turn you into an emotional wreck if care is not taken. Most of the time, you feel lonely, confused and abandoned. The kind of thoughts that run through your mind leave you shaking, and every feeling you have or share is a weight. You are always tempted to second guess or question your love and affection for one another,” says Mbi, how she felt each time her man went away at sea. No amount of conversation on phone comforted her.

Stanley was in the navy, and he was gone each month for fourteen days and the remaining fourteen days he spent with her. Mbi says she practically kept a journal to count the number of days he was gone, and when he will return to her.

“You know it was love at first sight for both Stanley and I, so I get weakened emotionally each time he has to disappear for fourteen days. The nights are the most tormenting, the loneliness clings to you like a second skin. I feel dizzy from wanting him, my head spins, and sweat breaks all over my body,” says Mbi.

“If a day passes and I don’t hear from Stanley, I get really worried and frustrated. Then my mind will start playing tricks on me; is he with someone else? Has he forgotten about me already? Why is he not picking my calls? Is he really at sea or in some other woman’s arms?” Mbi muses.

She adds, “I just want to wake up each morning and fall asleep in Stanley’s arms. Is that too much to ask for?”

Fourteen days had gone by and Mbi was restless, unexpressed emotion choking her up inside. Mbi spread her arms in the air. She was shaking with emotions and her eyes where already filled up with unshed tears. Stanley was due home that day and she had taken out time to do her hair, polish her nails and done other elaborate beautification on her body. Then she settled to wait for Stanley. It seemed forever until the doorbell chimed. She flew to the door, flung it open and there was Stanley. Home again and in her arms.
