DRYAD Project:

ERuDeF Shortlisted For Southwest Implementation

On October 15-16, 2015, ERuDEF received a team from the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Yaounde on a Due Diligent Visit led by Dr. Divine Foundjem Tita. The aim of the visit was to understand ERuDeF after the organization was selected amongst four other organizations for the Due Diligent Visit. If selected, ERUDeF would partner with ICRAF and the TMP Systems in the implementation of the DRYAD project in Cameroon.

DRYAD is a funding mechanism that channels public investment into community forestry enterprises (CFEs) in developing countries. As well as providing support, DRYAD is designed to generate clear data on CFEs’ capacity to manage forests in an economically and environmentally sustainable fashion.

DRYAD works through a network of local Implementing Organizations (IOs) whose role is to identify, support and monitor the CFEs that are the ultimate recipients of DRYAD funding. A Research Institution (RI) allocates capital to the IOs and verifies compliance with DRYAD standards. Unlike most top-down approaches, DRYAD takes its cue from the ground level.

Meanwhile, TMP Systems is working with ICRAF to implement a pilot of the system in Cameroon. The project – providing capital, equipment and technical assistance to locally designed, launched and operated enterprises – is supported by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).
